69 years of care
St Christopher’s Trust (SCT) enters its 69th year of care and support for those living with learning disabilities.
We have almost seventy years’ experience of caring for adults with learning disabilities with a wide range of needs, spanning mild to severe.
Originally established in 1954 as a school for children with learning disabilities, we have gone on to develop a range of services adapted to support adults with complex care needs in the form of residential care, supported tenancies, care at home, respite care and specialist activities in the community.
Committed to consistent quality of care, ensuring each of our clients receives expert, compassionate support tailored to their individual requirements, our friendly team of professionally trained team of carers consistently go above and beyond to provide all the support – and more – that our clients need.
The ideals and principles that underpin everything we do have not changed since our inception almost 70 years ago – to provide superlative levels of accommodation and wider person-centred support to adults with a learning disability, gently encouraging each individual to choose the lifestyle that suits them the best, to feel an integral, included and purposeful part of their community and to lead their most fulfilling and connected lives.
Dedicated to ensuring dignity, care, and comfort at all times, we place a particular emphasis on encouraging our clients to be as independent as possible and to fulfil their full potential within our community with plenty of choice in their lifestyle and living arrangements along the way.

Collaboration is key to the best possible experience We also know how important it is for us to work as closely as we can with family members and carers – after all, these are the people who know our clients the best. Our teams consult regularly with clients’ wider social circle and are always happy to give health and welfare updates. We all work with the same mutual goal in mind: to ensure that everyone in our care is treated with care and compassion and given all the choices and encouragement they need to live their best possible life.
Additionally, we work alongside many local leisure, sports and social clubs and businesses, arranging regular opportunities for our clients to attend group meet ups such as art classes, sports activities, work placements and various social events and celebrations throughout the year. A number of our clients have secured jobs within our own offices, where they are an absolute asset to our team.
In acknowledgment of the high standards of the practical and pastoral support we provide, we have consistently attained an annual Care Quality Commission (CQC) rating of ‘good’ across all their five key criteria. This rating was again achieved following our latest full inspection which took place on 18 May 2022.
