Residential Care

When it comes to choosing a residential care home for adults with learning disabilities, getting the exact blend of environment, atmosphere and the highest possible quality support and attention is crucial. It can be a very daunting task, but, at SCT, we pride ourselves on providing a warm, welcoming home from home option with all the necessary comforts and amenities to make residents feel safe, well looked after and connected to their community.

Derby House: the standard in learning disability living

Derby House is a recently renovated, purpose-built state-of-the-art equipped care home for adults with all forms of learning disabilities. It is very well established and respected in our local community, having previously won an award for providing dignity in care.

Location and facilities

Our residential home is set in a pretty, wooded grounds on the outskirts of Glossop. Derby House is registered for 14 residents and is currently running at full capacity – although registrations of interest for anyone seeking for future help for family members are warmly welcomed. In addition to its large, light community room and adjoining dining room, all residents have their own appropriately adapted bedrooms, some with ensuite bathrooms, and enjoy as much independence as possible.

Staffing and support

Our friendly, professional staff are not only committed to providing heartfelt kind and compassionate care, but also work hard to encourage residents to participate in a range of daily interactive activity sessions – including art and singing groups, some of which take place across a range of hand-picked, suitably adapted venues 6 within the community. Our residents really look forward to these sessions and have met up with old  friends  and new within these groups. Of course, nutritious, delicious food is just one part of the equation when it comes to providing the highest possible levels of care.

Enabling the best life possible

Everyone working at Derby House is committed to providing an inclusive, caring and compassionate environment where all our residents feel respected and valued. Our staff thrive on helping each resident live their best possible life and feel privileged to play their part in helping people to achieve this. Most of our carers have been with us for over ten years.

Each of go above and beyond to create a positive and supportive atmosphere in Derby House. They all understand that our residents are not just patients, but are also individuals with their own personalities, interests and stories to tell. This is why they take the time to get to know everyone personally, to learn about all their different likes and dislikes. Each day, our carers bring something unique and special to SCT – and this enhances the lives of our residents in countless ways.

In short, our carers are the heart and soul of our organisation. They bring a sense of warmth, compassion and dedication to their work, making Derby House a truly special place for our residents to live. We are grateful for their hard work and commitment – and we know that all our residents are too.
